Call to Action.

From unrecognized and unrewarded women's leadership, to intensified mental health abstacles, today, companies and organizations risk losing accomplished women leaders, future women leaders and years of hard work to advance gender diversity.

There has never been a more important time to support women leaders in the workplace and the advancement of gender diversity in leadership.

From unrecognized and unrewarded women's leadership, to intensified mental health obstacles, today, companies and organizations risk losing accomplished women leaders, future women leaders and years of hard work to advance gender diversity.

Despite women rising to the moment as better leaders, stronger people managers and more active champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion; their critical work is going unrecognized and unrewarded by leaders, companies and organizations. Today, women are even more burned out than they were a year ago. While the impact of the past two years on women continue to further disclose, the risks to women—and the companies that depend on their leadership—are still very real.

Leadership

A New Era: Build Back Better

How do we help leaders and organizations retain the very leaders the world needs right now: women leaders.

WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP - BUILD BACK BETTER
MARCH 8, 2024 - 9:00AM - 11:00AM

How do we help leaders and organizations nurture and retain the very leaders the world needs right now: women in leaders.

Even before COVID-19, women were playing on an uneven field. Globally, data shows that women are underrepresented at all levels of decision-making worldwide, and achieving gender parity in political life is far off. In Canada, the proportion of women executive officers increased slightly to 18.2% from 17% last year, but is largely unchanged since 2015.

Two years into the pandemic and the challenges are even greater. While women have made some gains in representation, especially in senior leadership, the pandemic continues to take a toll. In addition to taking on more work, women leaders continue to face various challenges in the workplace and almost 40% have considered leaving the workforce or downshifting their careers.

Companies risk losing the very leaders they need right now, and it’s hard to imagine organizations navigating the pandemic and building inclusive workplaces if this work isn’t truly prioritized.

Part one - Women Leading Globally will celebrate the accomplishments of women throughout the last two years; and then have constructive discussions on the status of women in leadership today that will include a panel discussion with senior executives sharing current challenges, and best practices that are shaping the culture within organizations and leadership teams. The panel discussion will be followed by a keynote on building back better.

Philanthropy

A New Era: A more equal world

2020 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, it was intended to be ground-break- ing for gender equality. Instead, due to the COVID-19 pandemic even the limited gains made in the past decades became at risk of being rolled back.

WOMEN IN PHILANTHROPY: A MORE EQUAL WORLD
MARCH 8, 2024 - 1:00PM - 2:30PM

Elevate IWD Part Three: Women leading in philanthropy

2020 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, it was intended to be ground breaking for gender equality. Instead, due to the COVID-19 pandemic even the limited gains made in the past decades became at risk of being rolled back. The pandemic has deepened pre-existing inequalities, exposing vulnerabilities in social, political and economic systems which are in turn amplifying the impacts of the pandemic.

  • Compounded economic impacts are being felt intently by women and girls who have been historically earning less or living close to poverty.

  • Gender-based violence has increased exponentially

  • Women's health has been impacted through the reallocation of resources and priorities, including sexual and reproductive health services.

  • Unpaid care work has increased, with children out-of-school, heightened care needs of older persons and overwhelmed health services.

A conversation with female philanthropists on critical challenges facing women and girls today and how we can invest in effective solutions for long-term change. Recovery must lead to a more equal world that is more resilient to future crises

A New Era: #BreakTheBias - Take Bold Steps

Advancing gender diversity and inclusion in leadership for women from all walks of life will require leaders and organizations to make bold steps.

#BREAKTHEBIAS: DIVERSITY INCLUSION AND BELONGING
MARCH 8, 2024 - 3:00PM - 4:30PM

Breaking the bias will be imperative to building back better.

  • Women continue to face a “broken rung” at the first step up to manager

  • Women of colour lose ground at every step in the pipeline - women of colour continue to face significant bias and discrimination at work.

  • Asian women are often unfairly overlooked at work.

  • Women with disabilities are often overlooked and undervalued in their workplaces.

  • LGBTQ+ often face disrespectful and “othering” behavior in their workplaces.

  • Latinas are less likely than other women to have a high degree of flexibility in their jobs, which makes balancing work and life especially difficult.

  • Indigenous women face the triple burden of discrimination when advancing in leadership

  • By almost any measure, Black women are facing disproportionately high barriers in the workplace.

Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging experts share insights on how companies, organization, communities and society as a whole can continue to manage the challenges of the pandemic while also building a more equal workplace that focuses on identifying key DEI priorities - particularly those affecting women in leadership.
